►►President Paul Biya has officially and solemnly been sworn in for a new seven-year term as Head of State of the Republic of Cameroon. The ceremony took place at the Paul Biya Glass House in Yaoundé on November 6, 2025. The President took the oath of office before members of Parliament, the Constitutional Council, and the Supreme Court.

Afrique54.net »As tradition demands, the Head of State pronounced the four-word engagement phrase to serve and protect the country in love, dignity, and peace: “I do so swear.” He took the oath before God and the Cameroonian people. This day marked a historic moment, as November 6 also commemorates the date President Paul Biya first assumed office in 1982.

During his inaugural speech at the National Assembly, President Biya pledged to intensify the fight against terrorism in regions facing political instability. He expressed gratitude to Cameroonians for once again entrusting him with the highest office, following the October 12 election in which he secured 53.66 percent of the vote. He used the occasion to outline his vision for the future—emphasizing youth empowerment through education and employment, and advocating for greater inclusion of women to strengthen social cohesion.

A Moment of festivity and republican honour

The presidential convoy arrived at the Glass House National Assembly at exactly 12 noon on Thursday, November 6. After taking his seat at the presidential tribune, the President of the National Assembly, Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, delivered the opening speech, congratulating President Biya on his re-election. He then proceeded, as customary, to administer the oath of office, marking the climax of the solemn ceremony.

Following the swearing-in, the President toured parts of the capital city en route to the Unity Palace. Along the way, festivities unfolded with the handing over of official attributes. The President was accompanied by First Lady Chantal Biya, as they greeted the crowds who had gathered in large numbers to witness the historic event. Traditional dance groups and choirs performed in honour of the President, adding colour and emotion to the occasion. A 101-gun salute echoed across the city, symbolizing the republican honour bestowed upon the presidential couple.

November 6, 2025, will be remembered not only as a day of constitutional continuity but also as a reaffirmation of national unity and democratic resilience. President Paul Biya’s renewed mandate comes with renewed expectations, from peace and security to youth empowerment and inclusive development. As the nation looks ahead, the swearing-in ceremony stands as a powerful reminder of the enduring spirit of the Cameroonian people and their collective hope for a future anchored in stability, progress and shared prosperity.
