Cameroon: The Islamic Development Bank to support the PPRD in the NoSo regions
► On Monday 18th December 2023 in Yaoundé, the Prime Minister Dr Chief Joseph Dion Ngute has solemnly presided the launching activities of the Islamic Development Bank funded Project In support of the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development (PPRD) of the North West and South West Region.
Afrique54.net | The project that will be based on three (03) major pillars is well anchored in the Cameroon Vision 2035, which focuses on prosperity and universal access to quality social services.
The Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development for the North-West and South-West will no longer be an illusion but a reality in the coming soon days. Based in three main pillars that is: Social Cohesion; Infrastructure Reconstruction and Local Economy enhancing, the objective of the project is to contribute to a peaceful and inclusive societythrough the restoration and provision of basic services through reconstructed infrastructure.
Revitalizing the local economy that was broken down by repetitive exactions of the Amba-boys in both regions appears as one of the major priorities of the government authorities. Strengthening Social Cohesion through increased community engagement, capacity building, training of stakeholders and bottom-up citizen participation were mentioned as other pillars of the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the North-West and South-West regions.
Alamine Ousmane Mey, Minister of Economy, Planning and Land Development reacted.
‘’It is important to mention that the reconstruction and development sites in the North-West and South-West regions is emanating from the Major National Dialogue that took place in 2019. One the recommendations was the reconstruction and the development of this two regions. Today, the Prime Minister, Head of Government has launched the project supported by the Islamic Development Bank that is allocating 21 billion FCFA’’.
Minister Alamine Ousmane Mey went on by praising the partnership between Cameroon and the ISDB. He then showed the different fields where the funds will be invested. He underlined:‘’This will contribute not only for the reconstruction of the infrastructures damaged by the crisis, but also to promote income generating activities to bring back the populations of these areas ad to improve their leaving conditions. The third action of this project is the reinforcement of the national cohesion and of the leaving together that are very dear not only to the people of these two regions but also to Cameroon, as an entire nation and as the will of the President of the Republic His Excellency Paul Biya says of course’’.
The Minister reassured the press that, achieving the above mentioned pillars will lead to new opportunities and as such, the government will achieve its goals. He said:‘’We want to believe that it is an important financial support we have been receiving, which will be supporting the Cameroon Government in the initiative of restoring peace and stability, reconstruct infrastructures and reunite the economy of the two regions while strengthening the cohesion of the populations’’.
