Artificial Intelligence at the Service of Social Security: NSIF Leads the Way

►►The National Social Insurance Fund (NSIF) of Cameroon is positioning itself as a pioneer inthe responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve services for insured citizens.
This was the key message delivered by the Director General of NSIF during the opening of a high-level workshop on AI in public administration, held on February 17 th , 2026, at the
Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications in Yaoundé.

Afrique54.net »Speaking under the theme “Responsible Artificial Intelligence in Cameroon: Protecting
Citizens, Regulating Uses, and Building Digital Trust”, the CNPS Director General outlined the
institution’s vision for AI, structured around two main approaches: instrumental AI and
absorptive AI.

NSIF’s Vision for Responsible AI

Artificial Intelligence has significantly improved the management of insured persons’ data at NSIF. Records are now handled with greater accuracy and reliability, ensuring that
information is always up to date and accessible. This transformation reduces administrative
delays and provides citizens with a more transparent and trustworthy system.
Speaking at the event, the Director General of NSIF, Olivier Mekulu Mvondo Akame focused
on efficiency and performance which has strengthened fraud detection through intelligent
algorithms capable of analysing declarations and contributions in real time. These systems
identify inconsistencies and suspicious patterns, allowing NSIF to act swiftly against
fraudulent practices. “The result is a more secure environment that protects contributors’
funds and reinforces confidence in the institution.”

Alain Mekulu Mvondo added that, “the processing of claims has become faster and more
precise thanks to AI-driven automation. Entitlements are calculated instantly, reducing
waiting times for pensioners and insured individuals. This efficiency not only improves
satisfaction but also demonstrates CNPS’s ability to deliver services that meet the
expectations of modern governance.”

Customer relations have equally benefited from AI innovations. Automated response
systems provide immediate assistance to clients, while predictive analytics support CNPS
leadership in making informed strategic decisions. This dual impact enhances day-to-day
interactions with citizens and strengthens the institution’s long-term capacity to adapt and
grow.
Concrete innovations include biometric facial recognition for rights maintenance, automated
issuance of official documents without staff intervention, AI-powered customer response
systems, and the launch of a digital service wallet, “MA CNPS A MOI”.

Absorptive AI

This dimension emphasizes education, training and the development of a citizen-centered
digital culture. The Director General highlighted the need to adapt the educational system to
current challenges, linking AI to broader reflections on quantum physics and African
ancestral knowledge. “Artificial Intelligence compels us to design a new social model,
adapted to our realities and governmental vision,” he concluded.

A National Debate on AI Governance

The workshop, chaired by Minette Libom Li Likeng, Minister of Posts and
Telecommunications, brought together government officials, director generals and experts.
The Minister praised NSIF for its successful implementation of digital governance,
positioning the institution as a key player in Cameroon’s public sector digital transformation.
This event marks a turning point for the National Social Insurance Fund, is not only
modernizing social security services but also contributing to shaping a national framework
for responsible AI, ensuring that technology serves citizens while safeguarding trusts and
ethics.
